Miami Beach

My partner has a condo in an old luxury apartment builiding on Miami Beach, and I'm lucky enough to get to use it from time to time. Tomorrow night I depart Sao Paulo, Brasil on a red-eye bound for Miami. If my luck holds-up, I'll arrive and clear customs before 6:00am, hit a cash machine and jump a cab to take me to my pad, change to swim gear and be in the ocean watching the sun come up.

The apartment has a wireless network, so as soon as I plug my laptop in, I'm back riding the light. Nicely decorated, large single bedroom, with hard wood floors and cool art work, furnished in a Havana motif. Second floor looking out towards the Intra-Coastal where the big yachts cruise past. It's a couple of minute walk out the door and down the stairs to a nicely kept, large swimming pool and walk out the path to the best part of Miami Beach.

It's my sister's birthday today and I tried calling her but she was out-to-lunch (no pun intended). I'm blessed with a great family and love both my sisters, as they're so magnanimous, clever, and enthusiastic. Shelley is particularity feisty, almost to the point of being stubborn, but has great sensibilities and incredible values.

Network Marketing Gambling

In all my years of being involved in sales and marketing, I've never witnessed a more dynamic combination than what we're experiencing with the growth on 888.biz MLM program. Tomorrow will be 2 weeks since the official launch and we've set records for growth and most likely for volume of sales, as there was $300k of new player deposits in the first 4 days alone.

The company computer sweeps the system and provides detailed reports on the 10th, the 20th, and the 25th of each month, plus performs the overall reconciliation on the 1st day of each month, but because of the processing of player deposit we depend on the 3 reports throughout the month to evaluate total group activity.

Dogs of Sao Paulo

We've befriended a nice neighborhood dog named Bobby, he's similar looking to a Golden retriever but a little less gold, little smaller and thiner. Very gentle dog that lives freely in the area and travels a circuit to visit his many friends and eat some handouts. Bobby, or Roberto as we sometimes call him, comes to the gates of our villa and waits until someone sees him, then barks and wags his tail with great enthusiasm. Fortunately for Bobby he's befriended a house of dog lovers, as we have 3 small dogs and because we always save him some scraps, which he's come to enjoy each day like clockwork.

Point of Life

For several years I've been subscribed to a Newsletter by a man from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, named Michael Levy. I really can't even remember how I came about to be registered, because it's been so long. Perhaps through "Science of Mind" as I attended the services regularly for many years when I lived in South Florida, and met lots of interesting people.

At any rate the description of the newsletter called "Point of Life Global Spirit" is as follows - Always:- Thought Provoking - Stimulating - Energizing - Refreshing - Inspirit. It arrives in my in-box about once per month and I always seem to enjoy it, and most often get some benefit from it. Today I received a new issue, which is why I was thinking about it tonight, and recalled that it provided me some amusement.

Casino Beach

Today CasinoBeach.com got a new design and upgraded software, from Mambo to Joomla. Probably sounds like Chinese unless you happen to know the bleeding edge of the open-source movement. If you've read anything at all about Content Management Systems (CMS), you'll probably know at least three things: CMS are the most exciting way to do business, CMS can be really, I mean really, complicated and lastly Portals are absolutely, outrageously, often unaffordably expensive. Open Source has changed all that.

My wife has pictures around our house from the good old days, when I was some 20 pounds lighter than I am now. Without trying to sound like a diet-sales-spam, I'm going to use the cliche "I've struggled with my weight for most of my life". I suppose I'm lucky that I'm not obese, and never have been, but my issue is how easy I put the extra weight back on, after I work hard to loose it, especially these days.

Being 44 it stands to reason that my metabolism burns less calories than it used to, therefore I have to be more pro-active to drop pounds than I used to be.

888.biz Update

Tomorrow will be the 7th day since the official launch of the 888.com MLM program called 888.biz. What an interesting and exciting week it's been, with each new day another twist or turn happening. Most of the problems right at the launch were related to politics and some insider "heavy-hitter" maneuvering. In case you're wondering what a heavy hitter is; industry term for a person who has generated a monthly income from Network marketing, in excess of $100,000 per month. Yes, there are many such individuals involved in 888.biz and as the big checks start to get earned there will be many more coming.

Sao Paulo lifestyle study

It’s the country’s biggest, richest city, but São Paulo ranks just 11th out of Brazil’s 26 state capitals (and Brasilia) as a place to live. The Fundação Getúlio Vargas, a business school, analysed quality-of-life data from about 48,000 families and produced a report that took 12 variables into account, including income levels, sanitation, pollution and violence. Brasilia was named the best urban environment, while Rio Branco in the north-west border state of Acre came last.

But São Paulo need not despair: the city was only about one point behind Rio de Janeiro, and unlike 13 other state capitals, it had a positive rather than negative evaluation. Paulistanos rated their city negatively for violence, but may not have taken into account the most recent crime statistics. From July to September this year murders fell 26%, to 584, compared with the same period last year.

Welfare check

A guy walks into the local welfare office for his monthly check. He marches straight up to the counter and says, "Hi. You know, I just HATE coming in here drawing welfare month after month. I'd really much rather have a job".

The social worker behind the counter says, "Your timing is excellent. We just got a job opening from a very wealthy old man who wants a chauffeur-bodyguard for his nymphomaniac daughter. You'll have to drive around in his Mercedes, but he'll supply all of your clothes. Because of the long hours, meals will be provided. You'll be expected to escort her on her overseas holiday trips. You'll have a two-bedroom apartment above the garage. The starting salary is $200,000 a year".

Recommending gringoes.com, Brazil's first portal for the foreign community. Traveling to, or living in, a new country can often be a harrowing experience so what you'll need most is information, and lots of it. For many, this lack of information can result in an unpleasant move, culture shock and even psychological and physical discomfort. Things like, finding a place to live, putting your children in a good school, public transport, buying a car, opening a bank account etc. are all essential to making a smooth transition to your new environment.

Where It Was Invented and How It's Used

March 1989

The World Wide Web has its historical roots in things such as the creation of the telegraph, the launching of the Sputnik and more, but it really all started in March 1989, when Tim Berners-Lee, a computer scientist at CERN in Geneva, Switzerland wrote a paper called Information Management: A Proposal. In this document, he wrote "just another program" (BBC, 12/31/03) that happened to revolutionize the world as we know it.
