Rio de Janeiro

The Marvelous City, as they call it, was all of that and more. We stayed in a nice hotel on the end of Copacabana, every day we explored new beaches and every night we discovered new restaurants. This was my third trip to Rio so I'm starting to get to know the lay of the land now, which is very challenging because of the position of the mountains that rise directly out of the Atlantic like giant pointed knobs, often rock faced on the steep sides or otherwise covered in jungle-like vegetation. The beaches are broad and curved with a cool Atlantic swell pounding in to relieve the masses of sun worshipers who flock here to enjoy the summer heat from all parts of the globe.

Success Strategy

Here's some words of wisdom from Alexander Graham Bell, a renowned scientist and inventor. In 1876, at the age of 29, he invented the telephone.

"The most successful men in the end are those whose success is the result of steady accretion... It is the man who carefully advances step by step, with his mind becoming wider and wider - and progressively better able to grasp any theme or situation - persevering in what he knows to be practical, and concentrating his thought upon it, who is bound to succeed in the greatest degree."

Conflict of Conscience

I hand-coded and published my first HTML web page in 1993, ever since then my thinking about what I should be doing with my web-publishing passion, has vacillated between projects for helping disadvantage children in third-world countries, or providing information and services to help wealthy North Americans invest offshore.

Living in South Florida at that time, every day we watched images, or in one case I eye-witnessed, Haitian families coming ashore in home-made rafts because they were so desperate to escape the poverty of their Island Nation. It prompted me to start-up "PC on Earth" a non-profit organization that would find ways to get information technology to schools in the Caribbean.

Reefer Poker Logo

reeferpoker-logo.pngIt all starts with a good name and this one rocks! because of it's eccentricities and enhanced viral-factor, since it combines 2 illegal activities into 1 name, both of those activities are adored by Pop culture, Gen-X and the masses, both will thrive despite prohibition.

The color scheme discreetly incorporates the Rasta colors of red, yellow and green, the font is called "Keep on Truckin".

Power of Now

Ever since I read the book "The Power of Now" I've become acutely aware of what my mind was thinking, I realize that for the most part it's out of control. By that I mean thoughts and ideas are arriving from seemingly no-where then bouncing around, sometimes causing other ideas to emerge, sometimes I become conscious of these thoughts but for the most part my mind runs amok like a high-powered computer just processing random information from Wikipedia with no particular purpose or reason.

This post was created automatically when I finished the installation process of MT 4.0. This Blog is used for testing components, plugins and themes etc... all the good stuff that can be added and modified in Movable Type before I make similar changes on other sites that use the same software. So please be patient as I attempt to get caught up and then back to posting more real articles, photos, and ideas, on this and other Blogs that are designed, developed, and managed by Silicon Palms.

The End

An interesting name for a story, as it compels the reader to read more and begs the question; end of what? I wish it were the end of the war or anything more than just the end of August, alas there's more; I've reached the end of my silence not the end of reason and decided to commence publishing articles again. Back in June when I stopped writing for the Silicon Palms Blog I made a decision that I'd wait until I found some clarity about my business before I started publishing again. See, I was conflicted by the blur of the lines between my life and my career and what was the meaning of either.

Now that it's a blue moon I've run out of excuses for not writing more often, especially since both business and personal life have been very exciting and rewarding. It's now time to step-up my efforts towards gaining more momentum.Jack Sparrow

Business Growth System

Strategic Profits Coaching Program

Rich Schefren was introduced to me by Mike Filsaime in an email just prior to the release of the Internet Business Manifesto. As a self professed information junky, with a penchant for self improvement, this document truly struck a chord with me. I keep a categorized folder just for eBooks and usually open new ones to make sure they're scanned for viruses and ready to read, then come back later in the day to check-out what I've downloaded to read.

Website Metrics

Metrics refers to the standard of measurement and when relating to website visitor traffic there are 3 basic standards which include; hits, page views and user sessions. In the early day everyone used the "hit's" measurement since it will generally be the largest of the 3 and often sounds the best. However, a single user can create a dozen or more hits from a single page view, then banner and text link ads refer to "impressions", sound confusing?

Carnival in Brazil

We watch the Carnival on TV and follow the scoring and commentary like it were big league sports, the entire country talks about the competition and each day there are highlights on TV. The dancing keeps on going each night until Fat Tuesday (today). Then tomorrow the judges scores will be revealed to the huge and very anxious crowds, as they wait with their 4,000+ team members to know if they won. The winning team dances once more, down the 1 hour long Sambadrome to the roaring crowds in Rio de Janeiro.
